Juventus Vs. Torino

February 27, 2008

Juventus and Torino clashed for the second time this season.  Their last encounter ended with Juventus being victorious off of a late goal scored by David Trezeguet.  This time it was different not that either team came away with the three points.  It was tied 0-0 at the final whistle.  This was Juve’s chance to come back after that horrible loss to Reggina.  Unfortunately they didn’t make anything out of this but a scoreless draw.  I feel that they should’ve at least won the match being that they are being followed by an AC Milan squad hungry for points.

Ac Milan Grabs Champions League Spot

February 27, 2008

Ac Milan grabbed a spot in the Champions League with a dramatic match that saw Filippo Inzaghi scoring a late diving header. Palermo took advantage of their early forward drive with Mark Bresciano scoring in the minute nine. Massimo Ambrosini slipped a shot in between the post and Alberto Fontana to level the scores. Massimo Oddo gave him a beautiful cross. Soon after, Andrea Pirlo fired a wonderful freekick, but it was parried away by Fontana. Inzaghi, a.k.a. Pippo, scored a beautiful header connecting with a cross, staying just onsides. It was his first goal of the season.

AC Milan – Arsenal

February 22, 2008

Ac Milan looked for a win with Alexandre Pato coming back. The game was a dead-locked battle, neither team earning the win. Kaka, the FIFA World Player of the year made a limited impact as The Gunners pretty much shut him down. Pato made very little impact as he was Yellow-carded, taken out,  and replaced by Gilardino. Milan looked pretty calm in the first half but lacked offensively. Arsenal dominated offensively with Adebayour and Eboue penetrating constantly. Milan had very few chances, but there was one that Kaka wasted. He had in the box. Kaka did a nice move or two. Then he did something that I still don’t or never will understand. He passed it. Frankly, he should have taken the shot instead of giving the ball away like that. During the second half, Arsenal slowed it down a bit.

Man of the Match: Paolo Maldini

Maldini was the ……… Glue for Ac Milan. Him and Jankulovski kept Arsenal out of the box. That’s why Zeljko Kalac hardly had to work. Not that Adebayour didn’t get past him now and then, but Maldini connected the defense.

Juventus defeats Roma

February 17, 2008

                                                                           Italian Serie A Update

Juventus closed in on the Romans yesterday with a stunning free kick scored by Alessandro Del Piero.  It started out with Juventus getting the early chances.  It started with Del Piero winning a corner kick in the second minute.  The kick caused a few chances in the box until Roma cleared it away.  The next chance for Juventus came a few minutes later when Daniele De Rossi jumped in the way of a powerful shot by Pavel Nedved.  Roma’s chance came 18 minutes into the match with Mancini’s 18 yard shot.  It deflected off of Francesco Totti and was then cleared by Cristian Molinaro.  In the 39th minute David Trezeguet lobbed it to Vincenzo Iaquinta who vollyed it towards goal.  Iaquinta was left with his mouth hanging open as Alexander Doni blocked the shot with a dive to his left.  In the 43rd minute Nedved was challenged 20 yards away from Roma’s goal by Phillipe Mexes.  2 minutes were wasted by the Romans complaining.  In the 45th minute Del Piero blasted the free kick into the one corner Doni had left open.  Roma almost found the equalizer seconds later in stoppage time.  The half ended with Roma still trying to get one past Gianluigi Buffon but were stopped by the post and the Italian goalkeeper.  In the early stages of the second half Roma looked stronger dominating possesion.  They almost scored when Matteo Ferrari flicked just wide of the post with his head in the 53rd minute.  Roma built up pressure by forcing 3 consecutive corners that amounted to nothing.  In between the first two corners  Giorgio Chiellini recieved a yellow card.  Juventus almost scored again when Jonathan Zebina took a shot from far out in the 57th minute that just went over.  Soon after Mexes missed 3 headers in the 59th, 63rd, and 71st minutes.  With 13 minutes left Buffon was forced to block a free kick from 30 yards out with a  dive to the upper right corner.  After that it was pretty much Juventus’s match although they were unable to increase their lead.

Player of the Match:  Alessandro Del Piero

There are many reasons why I chose Del Piero as player of the match.  He set up the early chances for Juventus allowing them to easily dominate the first 18 minutes of the match.  Throughout the first half Del Piero continued to help Juventus offensively and in the midfield.  Then he scored that free kick that gave them the lead in the 45th minute.  In the early stages of the second half he came back to defend several times threatening the Roman offense with several good challenges.  Del Piero also had several good chances .

Ac Milan 0-0 Parma

February 17, 2008

I have to say I was disappointed. I thought the game would at least have either team emerging with three points. Both will have to settle for one. Ac Milan dominated the offense, though Parma had a couple of good offensive flurries. The game was pretty much even. When Andrea Pirlo went in, Milan seemed the stronger team, with Pirlo taking a free kick that was parried away by Bucci. Emerson had an open shot in the dying minutes, but sent it flying over the goal. The man of the match, in my opinion, is Luca Bucci. He blocked shots left and right. He kept Parma’s heart beating. He kept the scores even and kept Parma out of relegation.

Ac Milan – Parma

February 16, 2008

Ac Milan will be playing a struggling Parma at 12. Milan is plagued with injuries.  Seedorf, Pato, and Ronaldo are all battling injuries. The Rossoneri have some consolation in the fact that Kaka and Alessandro Nesta will be returning. Parma is struggling to remain out of relegation, while Milan is trying to get the last Champions League Spot (currently held by Fiorentina). Milan is only 1 point behind Fiorentina. Alberto Paloschi, who scored 18 seconds after being sent in, will hopefully make an appearance. I think the score will be 1-0, Milan. The game will be at 4:30 on FSC.

Ronaldo Injury

February 15, 2008

Ronaldo’s injury is a crippling blow to the Milan comeback. He ruptured tendons in his left knee, in Milan’s 1-1 tie against Livorno. He underwent surgery in Paris for this carreer threatening injury. The injury could possibly have slowed the Milan Comeback to a grinding halt.
